Upskilling Individuals to Improve Livelihoods

PPB partnered with various reputable organisations to upskill underprivileged groups over the years.

Sewing Projects for Sustainable Livelihood

Since 2021, PPB has been collaborating with Persatuan Seni Jahitan Kreatif Malaysia (PSJKM) and has sponsored 210 participants from the B40 community for a 6-day intensive hands-on training course on creative sewing with natural dyes, eco-printing or repurposing techniques including plastic-to-textile conversion. After completion of their training, participants were each given a sewing machine and 6 months of continued mentorship. The participants were given the opportunity to sell their handmade products at PSJKM’s Facebook Live sessions and various bazaars. They are also encouraged to continue with the advanced sewing courses also sponsored by PPB, to upskill their sewing techniques and create more varieties for their product catalogues.  Many who had started without any source of income, are now able to earn an income by selling their sewing products after completing the course.

PPB also collaborated with AgapeCARE Society in Melaka, by providing sewing machines and equipment for their sewing project. Five trainees participated in a six-session program, creating products for sale and sewing clothing for a local nursing home, supporting AgapeCARE’s mission of “Helping Other People.”

PPB F&B Entrepreneur Development Programme

PPB collaborated with Food Aid Foundation for two consecutive years for the PPB F&B Entrepreneur Development, aimed to train needy individuals on food handling and culinary skills. To equip trainees in the F&B sector, a total 82 individuals were selected to attend a certified Food Handling Course. Of these individuals, 12 were shortlisted and completed a 10-session culinary course, including business training and hands-on food truck trials. The training programmes were tailored to the participants’ culinary interests, such as western food, hawker food, economy rice, etc. Upon completion of the PFED training programme, participants received a Certificate of Participation endorsed by a culinary school.

Training In Eco-friendly Furniture Production

In 2024, PPB partnered with Pertubuhan Perkhidmatan Sosial dan Pembangunan Komuniti Daerah Gombak (PSPK), to train 13 women and youth from the B40 group, including refugees and Malaysians residing in the Gombak area, in sustainable furniture production using recycled plastics. With the technical support from Universiti Kuala Lumpur, the participants completed seven workshops and created furniture prototypes. The training concluded with a graduation ceremony at the PSPK centre, preparing participants for future entrepreneurship and employment opportunities.

Picture Book Illustration Training Course

PPB sponsored a training programme for 19 creative individuals in 2024 and 2025, facilitated by Persatuan Peminat Buku Bergambar KL & Selangor (PPBBKL). This initiative aimed to empower aspiring illustrators to create compelling visual stories for children, fostering local talent and growing the picture book industry. The programme concluded with an exhibition showcasing participants’ work. They gained experience pitching their books to potential collaborators, media, and publishers, including Gasing Buku. Participants were encouraged to submit their work for awards like the Yusof Gajah Illustration’s Award and the Lee Chee Peng Picture Book Award. PPB Properties engaged trainees from batch 2024 to craft its 2025 corporate calendar, providing real-world project experience and further professional development.

“Ni Siap”, the Mangrove Dyeing Upskilling Project

The Ni Siap project, a community-based initiative in Kuala Sepetang, Taiping, Perak preserves the unique art of mangrove bark dyeing, a traditional skill originally used by local fishermen. Led by Ms. Goh Tyan Yin, the project upskilled the local women, equipping them with both the craft and entrepreneurial skills to generate sustainable income. Through dedicated workshops and outreach via the multi-purpose mobile cart sponsored by PPB, Ni Siap engages both the community and tourists, offering hands-on experiences that raise awareness about mangrove conservation. The initiative has empowered the local women to become trainers and entrepreneurs, fostering a resilient, community-led model that blends cultural heritage with economic opportunity.

Championing the Arts and Inspiring Creativity Amongst the Youth

In 2022, GSC, PPB and TikTok hosted a “Content Creator Day” workshop to inspire creativity, and support the arts and youth. The workshop, which was open to the public, aimed to help participants develop their content creation skills and learn about video-making, communications, social media, and others. Over 200 attendees participated in the workshop, which included talks from well-established TikTok influencers on animation, education, movies, and other topics, as well as tips and tricks for creating positive, impactful, and engaging content.
